HH Vitalis Brewers Yeast

BREWER'S YEAST – OLD FASHIONED & POPULAR

By Victoria Ferguson Dip.Herb.Med.

Brewer’s Yeast is an old fashioned yet still popular supplement for horses.  Grown from a fungus Saccharomyces cerevisiae specially for nutritional supplements or beer making, it contains all the B group vitamins except B12, plus chromium and selenium – a natural package essential for the health of the nervous and digestive systems.

Because it is a rich source of chromium, Brewer’s Yeast improves  glucose tolerance and may reduce blood sugar levels. Given the number of horses and ponies with insulin problems these days, due to being fed processed diets with most of the essential nutrients missing, Brewer’s Yeast is part of the answer.  It is a good appetite balancer, helps to improve appetite in fussy eaters and reduce excessive appetites no doubt due to its influence on the pancreas.

Brewer’s Yeast provides adequate levels of the B group vitamins, essential for the health of the nervous system, so there is no need to give additional B supplements in any form for basic and preventive nutrition.

The ratio of Brewer’s Yeast in Herbal Horse Vitalis® is based on a maintenance rate of 15 grams per day for an average sized horse (450 kg). Feeding rates vary considerably the lowest being miniatures and the highest being heavy horses and high performance horses. Only human tablet grade quality is used in Vitalis as other yeasts, baker’s yeast, nutritional yeast or torula yeast have insufficient chromium and vitamin B levels.
