Red Clover

Why do natural feeds and supplements produce a superior result compared with processed feeds, pellets, 'cool' feeds & pre-mixed fast feeds?

The horse's genetic evolution has produced a metabolism which operates efficiently on a wide Yarrowvariety of grasses, herbs, twigs, bark, flowers etc. Whilst we can never replicate the smorgasbord a horse would eat in the wild, we can offer a selection of natural feeds and herbs which provide the basis of a healthy diet naturally. Nutrition is not just about body condition!!

THE BENEFITS ARE …

  • Healthy horses with vitality & well being with strong disease resistance & easy healing ability.
  • More economical.
  • Excellent hoof growth & quality.
  • Exterior glow from inner health.
  • Able to cater for individual needs (feed intolerance's are common).
  • Easy quality & freshness control (no old or stale feeds).
  • You know for sure what you are feeding (no hidden rubbish).
  • No synthetically manufactured minerals & vitamins which are inferior to those in raw feeds and herbs.
  • Ensure you are not doubling up on ingredients, which is wasteful, expensive and overloads the metabolism.
  • No added synthetic salt, sugar, preservatives, colouring & emulsifying agents, humectants, flavour & paliability enhancers or residues from other animal feeds such as antibiotics.

Testimonial: One of Herbal Horse's long term clients, Rebecca Atkins of Quest Equine Welfare Inc. follows a 100% Herbal Horse natural diet for not only her own horses, but also the many horses, ponies, and donkeys who pass through the rehabilitation program:

CherishFeeding an emaciated equine can be a delicate process of observation, and daily tweaking of the diet. These horses absolutely blossum on a natural diet,Cherish and considering the stressed and fragile condition that many of them arrive in, it says something for their diets that not one of them has had a complication as they have gained condition. I feel safe feeding these horses, (and my own), ingredients that I can actually recognise. There hasn't been a pellet or a bag of pre-mixed/processed feed to be seen here for a loooong time!"

Cherish showing the benefits of her natural diet:

Horses are genetically designed to consume large amounts of roughage, that is, grass, hay and chaff.  These are the basis for Herbal Horse Natural Diets.

All horses and ponies need oil feeds, which are essential for body maintenance, growth and repair. We are very particular about the form and quality of the oils we select, utilising black sunflower seeds, chia seeds, organic hemp and coconut oils.  Other oils are not chosen due to their chemical extraction or instability, which can mean they are rancid in a short period of time.

Many horses and virtually all ponies do not need starch in their ration at all, as they can get enough calories from their oil ration.  Starch feeds include oats, barley and corn. We recommend these grains are prepared either by soaking, freshly crushing or minimal cooking, or by using micronized forms.

Our collection of natural feeds and herbs have all been selected for their vital contribution to the complete nutrition of the horse. They are led by Herbal Horse Vitalis, and include flaky wheat bran, raw wheat germ, French white millet, apple cider vinegar, raw honey, Himalayan rock salt, Peppermint leaf, Vervain herb, Chamomile flowers and Slippery Elm Bark Powder.

There are many factors to take into consideration when formulating diets – breed, age, weight, colour, occupation, temperament, season, contribution from pasture, teeth and worming status, doing ability and health status.

Herbal Horse formulates Natural Diets individually for your horses or ponies, for a one off fee of $55 per horse, which includes updating whenever required.

We are also happy to complete your horses profile with you over the phone.
Please feel free to phone and make an appointment to call us.

If the health status is compromised, then the horse in question also needs treating with a therapeutic herbal program. Please see Formulas and Consultations.
